I’m trying to avoid writing about politics as much as possible, as there are plenty of folks doing so with much greater elegance than I could muster, but also because that’s an all consuming rabbit hole I’d like to avoid, else my daily blog becomes all politics all the time.

However, I do need to chime in about this one issue, as this is wholly abnormal in America’s 250 years’ existence. Have you all seen the video above? If not, please take half a minute to watch it.

Folks, this is straight up cult behavior. And it’s honestly bizarre to watch an entire third of the country lining up behind this movement where literal facts don’t matter, everything he says is believed true regardless, anyone who says anything against him is wrong and deranged, he has literally the most knowledge on every single subject in the entire world, and he is basically being cast as a savior to the people.

What’s even more cringeworthy is watching our duly elected representatives fall all over themselves to promote this brand regardless of how ridiculous their ideas sound.

Since election day last November:

A republican has introduced a bill to remove John F. Kennedy’s name from the Kennedy Center and replace it as the “Donald J. Trump Center for Performing Arts.”

A republican has introduced a bill to create a $250 bill bearing Trump's portrait.

A republican has introduced a bill to make Trump's birthday a national holiday.

A republican has introduced a bill to rebrand the Washington Metro system as the "Trump Train.”

A republican has introduced a bill to rename the waterways immediately surrounding the U.S., also known as the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), to the "Donald John Trump Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States.”

A republican has introduced a bill to even carve his likeness into Mount Rushmore.

And just recently, giant banners of his face have been unveiled hanging up on multiple government buildings.

I mean, seriously? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills here.

This is incredibly dangerous. And far, far, far from normal.

Imagine if anyone had suggested any of the above for Biden or Obama. There would have been wall-to-wall 24 hour news coverage for weeks, and possibly blood in the streets. But with this guy, it’s just another day ending in “y.”

We are careening towards a cliff, y’all, and starting to resemble the likes of North Korea in just about every aspect of our civic life with this guy.

And by the way, in case you haven’t been paying attention, we now have national guard troops rolling out into our public city streets. So, where the hell are the second amendment “don’t tread on me” folks? Those who have always warned against government overreach? They literally warned about ALL of this behavior when a black man was in the white house.

Now it’s just crickets.
