Zeitgeist

Last night, I revisited Peter Joseph’s controversial 2007 debut film “Zeitgeist,” which I stumbled upon many years ago. It was well worth seeing again, as it helped me to realize and better understand what is currently going on in the world.

Let me start off by saying I am not a disciple of Joseph, and much of his work can and has been criticized and debunked. But at its most base level, there is at least some shred of truth to some of the ideas he raises, and I believe it should be required viewing for everyone, at least to get some kind of genuine international dialogue going.    

A simple google search yields this definition of the word zeitgeist: “The spirit of the time or a particular historical period, encompassing the dominant ideas, beliefs, and cultural attitudes that characterize an era.”

I’ve lately been so hyper focused on what is taking place in America that I admittedly wasn’t entirely aware that authoritarianism is apparently on the rise in Europe as well. Fun times, right?

I guess the pendulum simply swings eternal. And holy hell, here we are, once again facing the literal rise to power of actual Nazis. Some, of course, are in your face fully up front about it, as we’ve lately seen news footage of white supremacist groups marching through the streets of America with swastika flags. And we all saw the Elon double salute right around the time Trump was reinstated to the highest office in the land. And most recently, Stephen Miller literally quoted Joseph Goebbels at Charlie Kirk’s memorial service — a funeral which after his grieving widow’s eulogy, turned into an all out political rally to further demonize and persecute those who aren’t on board with the current zeitgeist taking place globally.

But then there’s also an awareness that these bad seeds couldn’t take root and germinate if there weren’t so many behind-the-scenes vacant minds openly available to receive this propaganda: those who buy the narrative hook, line, and sinker, even in the face of verifiable facts that prove anything and everything otherwise. Two plus two, apparently, does not necessarily equal four anymore. It equals whatever the hell Trump says it does, because he obviously knows Math better than anyone who has ever mathed before.         

So I guess our zeitgeist — the spirit of our times — is to have to try to tackle this foe.

Yet again.

I’m a hippie-dippie, flower-child, all-you-need-is-love liberal, and war has simply never made sense to me. But I guess seeing Joseph’s take on world history once again forced me to take a step back and simply breathe and just accept it: this is where we are. And we’ve been here before, and it stands to reason we’ll be here again at some point in the future once we have overcome this hate filled global propaganda campaign against anything that is good, healthy, and holy.

Because that’s what it all boils down to, isn't it? Good versus Bad. That’s the way it’s always been, since our opposable thumbs first appeared. As soon as we had the means to do so, we were making weapons. And then we create groups of “us” and “them,” and just go at each other’s throats nonstop. It’s so stupid and tiresome. I need a nap just thinking about it.

Maybe Joseph is correct in his astrological pronouncements, and the earth truly is on the precipice of entering the Age of Aquarius. Maybe that water-bearer will finally bring that lasting peace longed for by the majority of the world’s population, who simply want to live a happy, healthy, productive life. Or maybe our Alien Overlords will, in fact, finally make their presence known this November.

Either way, do yourself a favor, and watch this short 4-minute preview of Joseph’s Zeitgeist. And then ask yourself if what is happening now makes sense? It sure does to me. Whilst not making any at all either. It doesn’t have to be this way.
