Hello and Welcome! You’re now REQUIRED to use our service.
As of just a couple of months ago, I am now getting messages through, I guess it’s Apple messaging? I do have a MacBook Air laptop, but my phone is a Samsung. I have never signed up for Apple messaging, and those who know me well, know that I am not a big fan of technology overall.
So then why am I all of a sudden just forced into this new realm of communication against my will? I’m not in the rhythm of checking this desktop app, as I have never voluntarily used it and don’t want to. And yet, I’m now getting messages on a regular basis from several different people, from numbers that I don’t even recognize. People are messaging me and I’m immediately having to respond with, “Who is this?”
I don’t know if this is a result of literally every tech company bending the knee to this new administration in order to curry favor, but I just don’t understand WHY I’m being basically coerced into using a product or feature that I have no interest in whatsoever. This reminds me of the scene in “Don’t Look Up,” in which a big marriage proposal on live television between two music stars causes social media to explode, and we see a family of three in their living room commenting on said explosion, with one of the sons saying “Oh wow, my phone just purchased a new song - I didn’t even ask for that - what?? It just did that, without me asking.” Which happens again shortly thereafter. So, the guy’s phone just decides to spend his money against his will.
I assume I’m not being charged for this feature?? But it’s still quite annoying and, honestly, feels a little big “Big Brotherish” to me. One of the messages was from my own mother, saying she was trying to call me, and asking me to call her back. What if this was an important phone call? Because I didn’t even realize she had sent this message. And this message was “received” on September 27. I didn’t see the message until 2 days ago, October 7. Add to that, when I asked her why she was messaging me there, she couldn’t even explain how she was using it either.
Do Not Call list is one thing. This is wholly other. And it’s annoying and a bit creepy.
